Yucca baccata  Banana Yucca
PERENNIAL.  A short, sturdy yucca with stiff yellowish-green leaves that shred into gray tendrils along the sides.  Young flowerstalks and buds are dark red.  Flowers are heavy and waxy, bloom in April.  Fruit (rarely present) is green and fleshy, like short bananas.  Plants spread to form dense clumps.  Blooms only about once every 5 years.  In the Empires, common on dry ridges and south-facing slopes.
