Rhus virens  Evergreen Sumac, Desert Sumac
SHRUB.  Occasionally tree sized, but with multiple trunks, a rounded crown, and the overall aspect of a shrub.  Leaves pinnate, with shiny, pointed, bright green leaflets that have prominent veins.  Clusters of small white flowers are followed by dry pinkish berries.  One of the most common shrubs in the Empires.  Grows in small, steep bedrock canyons, and is an  important component of the chaparral community on limestone hills.  Formerly called R. choriophylla.
