Lupinus sparsiflorus  Common Lupine
ANNUAL.  The most abundant and conspicuous lupine of the Empires and surrounding area.  Leaves narrow, pointed, smooth or slighly downy.  Flowerstalks are tall and showy.  Flowers are purplish-blue with a conspicuous yellow spot on the banner (top) petal.  Pods are long and narrow, with several seeds.  March-May.  Fine desert gravel, disturbed ground, roadsides, washes.
