Krameria erecta  Ratany
SUBSHRUB.  A low, straggling, slightly woody herb with showy magenta flowers in April.  Flowers have a pouchlike lower lip that is fuzzy and dark purplish on the outside.  In the Empires, prefers bare, clayey, gravelly soil in chaparral and among junipers, often just above dry washes.  K. grayi is similar but  flower petals are narrower and the lower lip is flat and pointed, not pouchlike.
