Atriplex canescens  Four-Wing Saltbush
SHRUB.  A substantial, twiggy shrub, very pale grayish green with narrow leaves and long, slender branches.  Male and female flowers on separate plants.  Staminate flowers form puffy pink and yellow clusters.  Pistillate flowers are smaller, pale green.  Seeds are distinctive, with four broad wings (each about 1 cm wide), and may remain on the plant through the winter.  Blooms in April.  In the Empires, found in low, dry, desert flats, often in overgrazed areas.
