Agave schottii  Shindagger, Hellgrass, Lechugilla
SUCCULENT.  A small agave with very narrow, stiff, sharp-pointed leaves that grow in dense tufts. Dies after flowering but produces abundant offsets and the colony may spread to cover a large area. Flowerstalks are very thin (1-2 cm) with bright yellow waxy flowers and small crowded spherical seedpods. Common throughout the Empires on dry, rocky slopes and ridges.  Colonies are often "nurseries" for ferns, small cacti, and shrub seedlings.
FAMILY:  Agaveaceae (Agave Family)
